Sound Studio, W12
Our record producer client's brief was for a full professional recording studio within the confines of his existing house and garden. A covenant on the land prohibited the construction of any permanent buildings in the garden areas, and so it was agreed that the existing semi basement of the house should be developed, whilst maintaining the domestic occupation of the rest of the house.
The spaces are accessed via an external lightwell stair with adjacent storage basement under the front garden. The control room is naturally lit and comprises much of the basement area. Off this space is a naturally lit acoustically separated recording booth, as well as a WC area and secure access into the upper part of the house.
The works were carried out in four phases;
1/ formation of the basement structural works,
2/ installation of the internal floors, walls and ceiling, separated from
the structure by specialist vibration resistant supports,
3/ specialist installation of acoustic absorption treatments,
4/ installation of the cabling infrastructure and recording studio equipment.
